MOTIVATIONAL PROGRAM

“If you want to learn, join Civil Engineering. If you want to earn, join Civil Engineering. Even if you want to quit Engineering, join Civil Engineering.”

A special motivational program to kick up the enthusiasm on Civil Engineering a notch was organized by the Civil Engineering Society of the University of Moratuwa on 23rd of May from 4.30 p.m. to 6.00p.m. at the Civil Auditorium. The aim of the program was to inspire the students to do better in their lives and career with a boost of motivation.

Eng. Ranil Sugathadasa was the motivational speaker on the day. He is an engineering graduate, motivational trainer, management trainer, leadership trainer and a life coach. With more than 16 years of experience in multinational and local companies as an engineer, manager and a consultant, he has trained and coached over 160,000 employees in 150 key companies and organizations. He has become a very successful person with a very short time.  He is a senior lecturer at the University of Moratuwa as well.

Eng. Ranil Sugathadasa had his own way of opening the session. He started the event by pushing the ones who were sitting in the back rows to go forward and fill the front seats. He encouraged us to lead the team and not to become a follower. He was very enthusiastic and drove all our attention to his speech with his charming speaking style. It was interesting to hear him speak in our language using “thermodynamics” and “finite elements” as examples. He shared us his experience of how he managed to get ‘A’ for Thermodynamics in which he was very weak. Whatever mistakes we do today will not define our future. He made us understand that even the last minute is enough to make a difference. Hard work will always repay in the end.
He spoke about his work experiences, success and failure and how he managed every situation to become a successful person as in present day. Since his advices were from his own experiences and life, it felt very real and practical. His story was not about a fairy tale conquest where you get success served on a silver platter. He spoke the reality.
He made us realize how often we would blame ourselves for our mistakes and how rare we would thank ourselves for doing well. He also gave another important advice, which is to love ourselves to become a better version of ourselves. He asked us to treat ourselves with more love and passion. He asked us to think about our bad habits and good habits. Finally, he asked us to clap 28 times because all cycles take 28 times to kill the bad face of ours with the positive face to create our own better version.

Subsequently, he completed his speech with that special moment of feeling our better personality. The motivational program was concluded at 6.00 p.m. by giving a token of appreciation to Eng. Ranil Sugathadasa and with delivering the vote of thanks by vice president of Civil Engineering Society Sadish Madhushan.
