ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING OF CIVIL ENGINEERING SOCIETY-2021

The annual general meeting of Civil Engineering Society for the year 2021 was conducted virtually via Zoom application due to the pandemic situation. It was held with the main intention of electing new office bearers for 2021. The president of CES, Mr. Sahan Munasinghe presided over the meeting with the presence of the lecturers of the academic staff and the students. The meeting was inaugurated with the presence of Prof. (Mrs.) C.Jayasinghe (Head of the department), Prof. (Ms.) W.B.Gunawardhana (Staff Advisor), Dr. (Ms.) M.A.Pallewattha (Assistant staff advisor), Dr. Loshaka Perera (Senior Treasurer ) and some other lecturers.
The welcome speech by the former president of the society, Mr. Sahan Munasinghe gave a fresh start to the event. He talked about the progress of the society during the past year being grateful for everyone who supported the past members and congratulated the new group of office bearers to be appointed. Then the assistant secretary of CES, Mr. Aruna Wanniarachchi read the minutes of the last meeting on behalf of the secretary, Mr.Tharindu Madushan.
Thereafter the video presented on “A Glimpse of the years gone” brought up a radiant moment, recalling cherishable memories. Next the treasurer report was presented by the junior treasurer Mr. Malaka Kaumal. After that staff advisor of the department, Prof. (Ms.) W.B.Gunawardhana spoke about the headway made during the past few years reminding about the power of unity within the Civil family. Finally she mentioned about abdicating from the position of Staff advisor in which she was doing a tremendous job during past years.
Next the virtual platform was powered up by a delightful entertainment item by level 2 students, emphasising multicolour talents of engineering minds.

Newly appointed president, Mr. Buddhi Suraweera took over the meeting & gave heartiest greetings to the new set of office bearers. He also spotlighted about scope of the Civil Engineering Society through his speech.
After appointing the new board of officials, Mr.Malith Pehesara (Vice president) gave a warm welcome to the 19 batch (Level 2), appointing 10 Committee members from level 2.

After that it was the time for Dr. Loshaka Perera (Senior Treasurer) to share his ideas. He spoke about the value of services provided by CES to the department as well as to the outside community. Next the head of the department, Prof. (Mrs.) C.Jayasinghe addressed the gathering congratulating the new committee members. Her speech was concluded appreciating the members of CES on their great commitment.
Since there were no suggestions and discussions, meeting was adjourned at 6.20 p.m. with the vote of thanks by the new secretary Mr. Aruna Wanniarachchi. As one family, Civil Engineering department could successfully hold the general meeting beating up all the challenges during the pandemic situation remarking it as a precious memory in the Civil diaries.
