CIVIL TALKS – 2017 (Phase 03)
The third phase of the annual panel discussion was held on
the 26th of October 2017 at 10.00am at the Civil auditorium. The
event was chaired by Dr.Panchy Arumugasaamy, head of the Structural Division of the Ribway Engineering
Group and the discussion was titled as “Design and Construction of
Transportation Structures”. The event
was well attended by many instructors, students from 3 batches along with the esteemed
presence of the head of the department, Prof.J.M.S.J.Bandara as well as senior
lecturers Dr.C.S.Lewangamage, Prof.S.M.A.Nanayakkara, Prof.L.L.Ekanayake, Prof.K.Baskaran
and Dr.C.Siriwardhana.
With the welcome speech
the panel discussion started its proceedings. As the topic implies the purpose
of this discussion was to provide exposure through conversation on both recent
literature reviews and the personal experience of the panelist who is working
on developing reinvigorated methods that can be implemented in the design and construction
of transportation structures.
The panelist went on discussing a series of contemporary
competencies in design and construction of transport infrastructure and the
attendees were encouraged to embrace the novelty, gullibility, development and
maturation of them as the attendees will have to collaborate with these methods
as they move forward in the field.
The panelist also went on discussing a range of perspectives
and methods of facilitating the incorporation of new engineering concepts into
individual engineers and the industry in general. The layout of the discussion
was about 90 minutes followed by a brief Q&A session to engage audience and
panelist for about 10 minutes.
In overall the discussion is highly appropriate
and appreciated by the attendees as the knowledge gained by the discussion will
be in greater assistance when providing consensus for projects that will come
forth.
