"Civil Padura-2022"

Venue: Civil Engineering Department premises

The most awaited annual entertainment event of the year, “Civil Padura-2022” was held on 10^th of November, 2022 at the Civil Engineering department premises (“Civil Meda Midula”). This mass event was organized by the Civil Engineering society of University of Moratuwa, and the main role of organizing was played by the 18^’ batch of the Civil Engineering department.

Most of the academic staff members were present at the event, and they enjoyed “Civil Padura” till the end without leaving their seats. Prof. (Mrs.) C. Jayasinghe (Head of the Civil Engineering Department), Prof. M.T.R Jayasinghe, Prof. J. Manatunge, Prof. W.K Mampearachchi, Prof. M.W Jayaweera, Prof. I.R.A Weerasekara, Dr. T.G.P.A Weerasinghe, Dr. L.L Ekanayake, Dr. L.I.N de Silva,Dr. H.M.S.T Herath and Dr. K.K.G.K Dhanushka were present at this glorious  moment, and also most of the academic and non-academic staff members were there to witness the most precious and the most colourful night of November.

Since most of the undergraduates are stuck in academic activities, this was a great opportunity for them to release academic stress and to improve their mental health. “Civil Padura -2022” started at around 6.30PM. The event commenced after lightening the oil lamp in traditional way, and the welcome speech was done by Malith (President of the Civil Engineering Society) as a batch representative. After that the Head of the Department, Prof. (Mrs.) C. Jayasinghe addressed the gathering.  Although there was a rainy climate at the time, the whole area in front of the Civil Engineering Department was filled with university undergraduates before the clock hits 7:00 PM. Since the beginning of the program was presented with a dramatic element that made people laugh, all the viewers were happy about the event from the beginning.

The colourful lamps, lanterns and the charming decorations added a simple and warm beauty to the event.  With the incomparable decorations done by the 18^’ batch undergraduates, “Civil Padura” became a more colourful and fascinating musical night.  Then there were traditional dancing events, music performances and a continuous drama event presented by the 18^’ batch undergraduates. It was very inspiring to watch those performances presented by our own brothers and sisters in a live stage that made by themselves. And the songs performed by the lecturers were an inspiring thing to witness.

There was a little break, and during the break the refreshments were served to all who were present. After the break there were many other singing and dancing performances staged by our own brothers and sisters. When it comes to an end there were many students from many departments covering all the visible area, and that crowd gathered indicated the level of success of the event.

Finally, the vote of thanks was delivered by Ayesh, a representative from the 18^’ batch. He thanked everyone who was on stage and who was backstage in the success of the marvelous event “Civil Padura – 2022”. And yes, it was a creative and an excellent entertainment event organized by the Civil Engineering Department of University of Moratuwa.
