CIVIL APE
AVURUDU -2019
When the blackbird begins his lonely serenade and his future wife trumpets a fluty duet on the neighboring tree wore in parsley-green, scattered with buds who blossom, we know the spring is here.
Spring
wakes up minds with its creamy fresh smell and sensation. It has a fragrance, a
life and a lilting coaction unique to itself which collaborates in composing
its own symphony of sound.
With the scent of magic in the air carried by
the frill of flowers, Department of Civil Engineering in University of Moratuwa
accompanied with the spirit-refreshing scene of the spring in bringing the
pastoral “CIVIL APE AVURUDU - 2019” recomposing the nature-composed-opera by
adding the voice and rhyme of the Civil Family into the chorus.
On 04th of April 2019, sun arrived early to the Civil Department, the staffs of gangling light spouted from the sky turning the malachite-green Civil meadow into magical gold. The flora was energized with the rain by-gone night. The civil front lawn was not just a lawn but a garden with a villa at a corner comprised of a ‘vee bissa’ and a cart. Civil building looked picturesque with a Kolam at the entrance which everyone busy stopped for a moment and had a look at.
At the auspicious time of 9.15 in the morning
the owners of the villa ‘Arachchila’ and ‘Gama Mahage’ welcomed all the members
of the civil family to the occasion blessing all the university community a
happy and prosperous new year with boiling a pot of milk. The chief-guests to
the occasion, the gigantic banister of the Department of Civil Engineering,
academic staff remarked the commencement of the event lighting the traditional
oil lamp. Then the time came for the opening of the “Avurudu Kema Mesaya”, spring foods with a blossom sweet taste, the scent of the sweets flew in the
air,stimulating the taste nerves.
Tamil rituals added more elegance to the
event, and everyone participated to them enthusiastically.
The day was delighted with the
presence of head of the department prof. S.A.S.Kulathilaka, former head of the
department prof. J.M.S.J. Bandara and many more other lecturers and instructors
representing the academic staff. The students were more tuned up by the energy
added by them in participating ‘Avurudu Jana Krida’.
Entertaining the onlookers, a
group of girls and boys from ’17 batch performed a dancing item, splendid,
charming and delightful.
The day was full of fun events
including almost all the fun games in a traditional Avurudu ceremony. It was a
great opportunity to the civil family to get together and enjoy, a day free
from the busy working schedule.
"Civil Ape Avurudu" was a day
remarked in Civil Diary as a day filled with happiness, cheer, delight and joy.
The beautiful smile, the members of the civil family had in their faces on this
day would last long and the year ahead is blessed to be the best year in
everyone’s life with everything best coming into their lives!
