CIVIL TALKS  2018 (Phase 02)

Enlightening the technical knowledge scope of Civil engineering students of the department, a guest lecture on design, detailing and installation of structural decking as composite slabs was organized by Civil Engineering Society on 31st May 2018 at 11.15 am at the Civil auditorium. The lecture focussing the final year undergraduates, was conducted by Engineer E. Suresh while the undergraduates from other levels were welcome to join in.

Prof M.T.R. Jayasinghe and Dr. (Mrs.) M.T.P. Hettiarachchi participated representing the academic staff and the welcome address was given by final year undergraduate Heraji Hansika.
Eng. Suresh explained about the importance of steel structures and specified about the benefits of TATA steel, the main sponsor for the event.  TATA Steel in fact is an economical, sustainable and green construction that would match the modern engineering requirements. He also mentioned that TATA Steel was used for constructions of warehouses and office buildings etc.

The sample product he brought with him was able to provide a visual understanding of the product. He described about their structural decking system which has excellent spanning capacities ensuring great strength and less deflection. He enhanced our knowledge regarding usage of steel structures and the structural decking system for safe and better construction.

The participants were provided with leaflets of “Lysaght” which consisted of their roofing and wall cladding products and specifications along with tender specification details. Refreshments were accompanied with a video about the ‘TATA Bluescope’ steel and its application.

Finally, Suraj Wickramasinghe, a CES Executive committee member, concluded the lecture at 12.30 pm after presenting a token of appreciation to Eng. E. Suresh and with the vote of thanks.
